When people say “Happy new years.” New years? It’s only one new year… unless you’re being generous and wishing me well for the following years to come.
Or “I’m sad I can’t go out on new years.”
You can’t go out on new years? What about old years?
New year’s! NEW YEAR’S!!! You’re talking about the day: new year’s day! Use that apostrophe! You can’t go out on new year’s day, which makes you sad! However, I’d be sad too if I couldn’t go out for all the new years to come.
